Divine Growth

FURTHER GROWTH

After the elevation of Madina to a District status, its suburbs continued to expand. It then became necessary for the Church to continue its evangelism to win more souls for Christ and to plant more churches in the area.  The Bible Study and Prayer Group championed this cause and through that the following churches were established:

  1. North Legon Ascension now Ascension Congregation
  2. MadinaEstate Presby Church now Faith Congregation
  3. Kwabenya Village Presby Church now Nazareth Congregation
  4. Northern Outreach Programme
  5. AmrahiaPresby Church
  6. AdentaFrafrahaPresby  nowVictory Congregation
  7. Baba YaraPresby Church now Grace Congregation
  8. Atomic Hills Presby Church
  9. Adentan West Presby Church now Covenant Congregation
  10. Housing Down Presby Church now New Life Congregation
  11. MabeyPresby Church now Shalom Congregation
  12. NmaidjornPresby Church now Jordan Congregation
  13. AkatsiAborPresby Church now Good Shepherd Congregation

The Madina District subsequently gave birth to the Adentan District which has also produced the Frafraha District. Madina Immanuel Congregation is the Head Station of all the congregations within the Madina District.

“Pray! And listen to God! You can do this alone, but find somebody to do it with you”

PRESENT STATE OF THE IMMANUEL CONGREGATION

The old chapel, became too small in no time to accommodate the growing number of members. A decision was taken on the 19th October 1975 at a Congregational Meeting to put up a bigger chapel to accommodate at least 2000 people.  On 11th August 1976 a sod was cut to start work on the new chapel.

Funds for the construction of the chapel came mainly from the members of the congregation and some benevolent donors overseas such as a group of churches led by Rev. Bill Warlick of P.C. U.S.A. and the Presbyterian Church of Alexandra also from U.S.A.

On 9th April 1993, the Good Friday Service was held in the newly roofed Chapel.

The plaque to commemorate the foundation laying stone was unveiled by Very Rev. A.A. Beeko, former Moderator and was assisted by Rev. R.B.Y. Quarshie and Rev. Dr. KwakuLartey on 19th November 1995.  The constructional work progressed steadily and by August 1997 the building was in a good shape to host that year’s Synod Sunday Service.

A historic ordination of nine (9) ministers into the Holy Ministry was held in the Church on 4th

August 2002.  The sermon was preached by the late Rev. Peter M. Kodjo.  The Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Prempeh officiated, and was assisted by Rev. Dr. Charles Gyan-Duah, the then Clerk of the General Assembly.

The Chapel has since been accommodating some major Presbyterial and National events.

The church being located within the community has been very active in its social responsibility. The first being the provision of a community school which serve the needs of the locals. This is believed to be one of the best schools in Madina. We have on a number of occasions visited and presented to the Pantang Hospital items to relieve the pain of the patients. We have also on a number of occasions donated used clothing to rural communities. We are in a sister relationship with the Nalerugu Congregation in the North where we have assisted them in various ways including the purchase of a Motor Bike for them to assist in evangelistic work and donating towards the building of their new chapel.

The church with support from our partners from the United States (Water for Life, Idlewild) has set up a water treatment plant with water from rain. This provides water to the congregation during gatherings and also for sale at subsidized cost to members and the public.

The church also acquired a 33 seater Toyota Coaster Bus to operate as a Commercial Tour Bus.

THE SCHOOL

The Church started putting up a school block as early as in 1969.  However, this idea did not   come

into realization until 1996 when it was revived with a new momentum.  The church was

able to put up a three classroom block and classes started in September 1999.

CHURCH HALL

The sod was cut by Rev. Felix Maafo, the then District Minister to commence work on an ultra- modern complex to be used as a Church Hall in 2003. This project eventually was extended to accommodate the Madina District Offices. The construction of the building has been completed and named Madina District Jubilee Hall.

Water Project

The church by the grace of God established a water project in 2011 to produce and supply water to Madina community and its environs.

By the grace of God, Immanuel Congregation was able to dedicate the chapel in August 2011.

By the grace of God, Immanuel Congregation was able to dedicate a new Manse in 30th December, 2018.
