The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has presented a cheque of GH¢ 50,000 to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund. The amount is in support of the national efforts towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Making the presentation on behalf of the Church, the Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor said the Church appreciates the efforts by the government to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the Presbyterian Church of Ghana remains committed to contributing to the development of Ghana and stands firmly with the government and the people of Ghana in time like this in the efforts to address the effects of COVID-19 on the country.
He encourages the general public to observe the protocols of thorough washing of hands with soap under running water and social distancing and most importantly wearing of face mask to curb the spread of the virus.
Receiving the donation, the Chairperson of the COVID-19 Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akuffo, appreciated the gesture and commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its instrumental role in the development of Ghana especially in the area of health and all its contributions to complement the government in the fight against the pandemic.
She appealed to the leadership of the church to spread the message of the importance of taking the COVID-19 vaccines so that more people would go for it in order to curb the spread of the pandemic.
This is the second time the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is making a donation to support the fight against the pandemic. The first initiative by the Church was in March 2020 when the Church decided to provide lunch every day for one hundred medical staff working at the three designated health centres managing Coronavirus (COVIC-19) cases in the country.
The health centres were the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) Tema General Hospital, and the Ga East Government Hospital.
Boxes of Salem Mineral Water produced by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and cartons of soft drinks were also presented to the medical staff.
